Shute is in an ideal position for a rustic, relaxing break with the popular Nobody Inn a short stroll down the lane and a public footpath across the fields into the next valley and 'The Manor Inn' at Ashton with its excellent food. It is a perfect base from which to explore Dartmoor with its beautiful villages, pubs, varied activities and attractions. Walking enthusiasts will be overwhelmed by the number of beautiful walks in the area.

The 3500 acre Haldon Forest just 2 miles up the lane, offers tranquil woodland walks, where deer are often to be seen; a childrensí play trail, 'GO Ape' high wire tree top adventure and an art centre. The Forest also boasts extensive biking trails including red and black runs for the serious mountain-bike enthusiast!

Shute is situated on the edge of Dartmoor, Englandís biggest National Park. The National Trust's dramatic Castle Drogo and its beautiful formal gardens are just 15 minutes away, whilst Canonteign Falls and Lakeland are also within easy access. Dartmoorís famous granite tors, breath-taking walks, traditional Devonshire thatched pubs, the Cathedral in the Moor at Widdecombe, the panier market-town of Chagford with its antiques, the historic town of Mortonhampstead, Buckfast Abbey and the Craft Centre at Bovey Tracey, as well as many other attractions are all just a short drive away.


For the antique enthusiasts, the ancient stannary town of Ashburton has an abundance of antique and shabby chic shops and a fish deli to die for! Also nearby, the ancient port of Topsham, has an antique warehouse, boutique shops and pubs. It is also a bird loverís paradise being on the Exe Estuary. The area is littered with fun days out for families and children whatever the weather. The South Devon Steam Railway at Buckfastleigh (which terminates at the animal park and the popular town of Totnes with its summer festivals) is 15 minutes away. There is canoeing, climbing and zip wires at River Dart Adventures. Pony riding and wildlife discovery trails at The Miniature Pony Centre. A magical castle and deer safari at Powderham Castle, Becky Falls, Pennywell Farm Activity Centre, Crealy Adventure Parks and Diggerland are all nearby.

Horseracing at Devon and Exeter Racecourse is a mere 3 miles from Shute. Golfers are also catered for with the 18 hole Teign Valley Golf Course just 10 minutes away, and the world renowned Bovey Castle championship course, voted Best Golf resort 2005 at the World Travel awards, is approximately 12 miles away.

Doddiscombsleigh is a conservation area, with a pre-conquest church, medieval farmhouses, 16th century cob barn and the famous Nobody Inn. The Nobody is a 5 minute stroll or stagger (!) down the lane. It is renowned nationally for its food, locally produced cheeses, extensive collection of 700 well cellared wines, its choice of 240 whiskies, various local farm ciders, Nobodys Bitter and Otter Ale. The Manor Inn with its gourmet menu is a balmy walk across the fields, through the woods along a public footpath.

Devonís famous sandy, south coast beaches are within easy access off the A38.
